This 2006 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon demonstrates the further solidification of style and structure of one of Laird’s signature wines, and first in recent memory to utilize Cabernet Sauvignon from the Red Hen Ranch behind the Laird Winery. The reminder of the fruit came from the Yountville AVA. Mast Ranch is on the western side of the Yountville appellation in the bench-land of the Mayacamas Mountains. Laird’s State Lane Ranch is on the east side of the Yountville appellation, very near the Silverado Trail and Stags Leap.
Tasting Notes
Blackberry, ripe plum and baking spices are layered on a more subtle aroma of red berry and currant. Good flavor intensity and juicy fruit complements the earthiness. Flavors included are cocoa, clove, and cinnamon enhanced by smokiness from the oak. A solid acid balance, medium weight, and chewy
tannins envelop the wine. Our expectation is for very good longevity as the wine continues to develop over the next five to eight years.
