Jack Mast was the third generation of his family to own and carefully tend the Mast Ranch. In his whole adult life Jack spent only one night away from his beloved ranch. The spirit of this fine man lives on in the stewardship of the land. The vineyard is situated on the western side of the Yountville appellation in the benchland of the Mayacamasmountains. Hallmarks of this location are the gravelly soil, stellar climate and good drainage that combine to create world class cabernet. The winemaking skills of Paul Hobbs and his team is the other important factor.
Tasting Notes
Prominent aromas of plums, cherries and spice are consistent with the deep purple color of this wine. The texture is silky, elegant and velvety. A broad and balanced flavor profile emphasizes dark fruit, spice and dark chocolate. Nice structure and focus, but at this point decanting is suggested to integrate the flavors and aromas, although it is refined in its youth.
