The Laird family chose the stellar 2005 vintage to make their first single vineyard wine from Mast Ranch. Mast Ranch is normally a component of their Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is situated on the western side of the Yountville appellation in the bench-land of the Mayacamas mountains. Hallmarks of this location are the gravelly soil, stellar climate, and good drainage that combine to create world class Cabernet. The winemaking skills of Paul Hobbs, and his team, is the other important factor.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby color. Classic Cabernet fruit aromas with a hint of dry thyme, cedar and menthol. The red fruit flavors are complemented by dark chocolate,
cherry and a touch of leather. The wine is favored with a rich mouth-feel, good acidity and medium tannins. The oak is well integrated and the Cabernet has a huge finish.
